Hello and welcome to my blog! My name is LeQuan (pronounced lee-kwon) and I’m a stay at home mother of two sweet, sweet little monsters….oops did I say monsters? I meant two sweet, sweet little angels 😉 As most parents would agree, kids can be little monsters at times but for the most part they’re mommy’s little angels. I graduated from the University of Alberta (Canada) and taught high school math and science for about 3 years. After I had my first child I decided to stay home and put my career on hold for a while. Now I have a 3 year old daughter and a one year old son who keep me on my toes all day. I am a neat freak but my hubby likes to call it OCD haha. Ever since the kids, I think I’ve eased up a little though. Here’s what my house usually looks like nowadays (yikes):

And here’s what I would prefer it to look like everyday (aaaah):

My husband Gary and I started dating in high school, got married a couple years after finishing university, and then had kids right away. We both love to eat. As a matter of fact, I’m sure our common love for food is one thing that kept us together all these years teehee. Here we are before the kids: (He was best man at a friend’s wedding, hence the outfit.)

And here we are with our two bundles of joy B (left) and A (right):

Last year I watched this movie called Saving Face (if you haven’t seen it you really must cause it’s such a great movie!) and became a huge Lynn Chen fan. After becoming a fan of hers on Facebook and following her on Twitter, that lead me to her food blog The Actor’s Diet (which she used to co-blog with friend and fellow actress Christy Meyers). Yes I Lynn Chen stalk (as my hubby calls it) and am not afraid to admit it…teehee. As I read more and more of their posts it began to inspire me to start my own blog. But at the time my daughter was 2 and my son was only 9 months and very clingy (so clingy that my husband and I nicknamed him koala) so I never found the time to start one until now. So thank you Actor’s Diet for the inspiration 🙂 I’m hoping this blog will allow me to talk about my two passions in life (my kiddies and FOOD), help me cope with the stresses of motherhood (keeping me sane at the same time), and help me gain some experience and input of what other moms and food lovers are going through.

Another reason for starting this blog is because I used to eat a lot of junk food, but ever since my first pregnancy I made the choice to cut back and started eating “somewhat” healthier. I say “somewhat” because I still have the tendency to binge once in a while. Back in the days before I had my kids I would binge eat a lot. I used to play a lot of sports from tennis, to volleyball, basketball, soccer, badminton, ping pong, floor hockey…you name it I played it. It didn’t affect my weight gain too much so I just kept eating whatever junk whenever. Now that I have kids I would like to set a good example for them. I also don’t have the time to exercise as much so it would definitely be in my best interest to quit the binge eating and start a healthier lifestyle. These days I’m lucky if I get half an hour of DDR in for some exercise (love DDR).

As you can see, my husband and I are Asian so this blog will probably feature a lot of Chinese and Vietnamese food. On the occasion we do like to eat Japanese, Korean, and Western food. I’m hoping to write in this blog at least once a week, most definitely not everyday untill my kids are a little older and less needy. If you’ve gotten this far, thank you for taking the time to stop by my blog and reading this. I hope you will enjoy the posts to come.

Leeqs…great intro about yourself. I actually found out a few tidbits about you i previous hadn’t known. OCD? really? Hahhah i was somewhat the same way before i met Roy. The “messy” photo looks like an organized chaos.

LOVE LOVE LOVE ELLEN! Did you know she’s one of the judges on American Idol this season?

I can absolutely relate…i have never been as health (food) conscious as i was when i was pregnant with Billie. And now that i’m not nursing her anymore…it’s all gone down hill. My primary concern is Billie and what i feed myself now comes in a distant second. But yes…establishing healthy eating habits will be a great thing for the kids, i intend to do that will Billie also.

So i received this book when i had Billie: http://www.amazon.com/Deceptively-Delicious-Simple-Secrets-Eating/dp/0061251348

It’s written by Jerry Seinfeld’s wife, simply great recipes in there for children who don’t particularily enjoy vegs. She has great techniques to sneak them in, so the kids are none the wiser…healthy and yummy!

Hello dear! Thank you for being the first to comment. “organized chaos” lol I love it. Yup yup about Ellen, I follow her tweets. Just remember, the best way to take care of Billie is to keep yourself healthy. If you’re not healthy and eating good food then it’s hard to have the strength to take care of her. Thank you for sharing that book with me. I’ll def keep my eye open for it next time I go to chapters. Hate buying stuff on line if I don’t have to cause of the wait.

Welcome to the blog world. As a fellow newbie and mother of 1 princess-ey 6 y/o girl who is a joy and a challenge, I juggle many things as well. I totally understand the organized chaos but I have heard that it is “a sign of a creative mind”. I like your wrap recipe and hot pot and will be checking in for more. Thanks for checking my newbie blog!

Dear Luvtoeat, your photos of your family are beautiful and how the actors diet blog inspired you to start your own blog. I have been to the site, and did not know that the one girl had been in the movie saving face. I am definitely going to rent it again and pay more attention. Thank you for sharing.

Lee-Kwan, eh? And from Edmonton! Welcome, and thank you for stopping by to introduce yourself. I need to learn more about Asian cooking. I love almost all kinds of Asian food… Thai especially…most of the Chinese food here is Canadian Chinese – so, I would have a lot to learn there, too.
And, you used to go to Kate Chegwin. You must be the same age as my daughters. I opened up Mary Butterworth in 1992 and was there until 1995. Kate Chegwin opened in 1992 as well. My daughters came all the way across the city with me then for grade 9 and grade 7. Now, they are 29 and 31. Looking at your young family, you may be younger. Neither of my daughters are married yet… but soon.
Do you still live in the area? That is really wild. And what is more crazy is that 2 nights ago I had a friend request from one of my students at Mary Butterworth. She is now 30 and living and working in Texas. She wrote me the most beautiful letter, I cried and cried…
And here is another young Edmonton “student” – not mine, but “all grown up” and living a beautiful life with beautiful little monsters/angels! I can truly relate. Even now.
    Keep in touch.
I will put you on my Edmonton Food Bloggers list. I think mine is the most detailed of any out there yet. We are all trying to do the same thing. Write about our lives through food and provide the opportunity for really good conversations and more learning about food – and our lives.
Keep you eye on the Edmonton food Twitter hashtag too #yegfood. You may already, if you follow tweeters. Also, Sharon Yeo has a website called Only Here for the Food and she hosts Foodie Meetups for Food Bloggers and lovers throughout the city who want to get together – 2-4 times a year. Not sure. We just got together this month. The Site is called Edmonton Foodie Meet Up.
    Big Welcome to you!
    🙂
    Valerie

Oh my fellow Asian Lynn-Chen lover – you are awesome!

An Asian mommy food blogger? That’s incredible. I almost want to run away screaming to my mom to tell her to start her own blog too. Ha!

Just found your blog! I have two monsters – er, children – and they do keep me busy. I’m Vietnamese so I’m always looking for Vietnamese recipes!

  17. 19 Sharon Moh December 10, 2010 at 3:00 am

I’ve never really had proper Vietnamese food. But I tried making a Vietnamese pot-roast chicken once and really liked it! Though I’m not sure if it’s a very authentic dish. Will definitely be checking out your Vietnamese recipes for new ideas!
